Common Questions.
Those tools are excellent but reactive. They help you return to baseline after the friction has already accumulated. Sensory work sits upstream of that. It addresses the input before dysregulation builds, at the level where your body is processing sensation before language or thought. Nervous system regulation strategies are a great tool to have in your tool box because we cannot control everything that happens to us. My goal is to help you live more regulated day to day so you can focus more on things you care about and less on managing ambiguous stress and endless fatigue. My approach to nervous system regulation does not take an hour out of your day to achieve, is relatively low-effort, non-medical, and has high return on investment.
Absolutely. Most of the women I work with have not outright identified themselves as sensory sensitive or sensory seeking. Humans are incredibly good at finding reasons for discomfort, and women in particular are good at blaming themselves for it. Sensory processing as a field is mostly oriented toward children and clinical settings, which is part of why adults do not have the language to name the sensory friction in their lives. Regardless of your sensory style archetype, you wear clothes every day to work and that creates a work environment on your skin. The fashion industry is flooded with fast fashion and cost-cutting materials that are not conducive to wear for a full work day. Architects and corporate designers know the benefit of this work. You are only just finding out, and I would love to work with you.
No. This is not a style consultation and you are not going to walk away being told to buy all new clothes. We start with what your goals are for the session. If you want to replace pieces you have, we will go from there. If you want to work with what you have, we will discuss how to counterbalance the pieces that create the most friction for you. You will receive information about fabric and construction details to look for while shopping. The goal is not to change your style or taste but to give you knowledge to build a sensory ergonomic wardrobe.
This service is complete on its own. If you want to go deeper or make changes beyond your wardrobe, this summer I will start offering packages that include assessments for each of your individual senses, audits of your work and home environment, and practical information about how your sensory profile impacts not just your work but every aspect of how you interact with the world, including your loved ones. Digital downloads will be added regularly as well.
Burnout is the symptom. Sensory friction is the cause.
The first place to look is the environment closest to your skin. Check out how to work with Stephanie.
